Course objectives

This course is developed to inform the learner of an important and challenging problem in our practices. Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a difficult and annoying disorder that is characterized by burning; stinging or pain that may encompasses the entire mouth, more frequently the tongue. The symptoms as well as classification of the disorder are presented. The learner will learn the common contributing as well as predisposing factors to this disorder. Complications and evaluation procedures are listed. The treatment protocol as in medical and dental approaches and the needed alterations in life style are explained. Finally, the issue of coping with the problem is discussed.
